Care and Repair Programme

What is Care and Repair?

Are you 65+ years of age? Do you have a small repair job that you would like us to help you with?

The Care and Repair Programme was established by Age Action to carry out minor repairs for older and vulnerable people free of charge, to give them access to reliable tradesmen for larger jobs and to provide a befriending service, which is provided through visits and telephone calls.

The vision of the programme is to enable older and vulnerable people to remain in their own homes, in their own communities, living as independently as possible, through the improvement of their housing conditions and their level of comfort, security and wellbeing.

Our team provide a willing pair of helping hands to do a variety of small tasks that an older person may find difficult to do. A job is expected to take no longer than 90 minutes, though many small tasks may be undertaken during the same visit.

The client only pays the cost of materials.

The most common services required by older people are small gardening jobs, minor paint jobs (e.g. front door, garden gate), changing plugs, fuses and light bulbs, hanging curtains, installing security locks and chains, installing domestic smoke alarms. All requests for small jobs are considered.
